Fishing & Field SportsStrathspey Estate offers a rich variety of field sports including Salmon fishing on the River Spey, Red Deer and Roe Deer stalking, Grouse shooting and mixed, walked up, low ground shooting. Fishing The River Spey needs little introduction as one of Scotland’s best known salmon rivers, and at Castle Grant Water, downstream from Grantown on Spey, the Estate has three of the best salmon beats on the river, with a total of 29 named pools. Each beat has double bank fishing ensuring exclusive use in quiet tranquil surroundings. Our full-time ghillies on each beat are happy to impart their local knowledge of the river to ensure the best possible chance of a successful stay for every fishing guest. These three beats are available from mid February until the end of September. Upstream, near Boat of Garten, our Kinchurdy beat stretches over approx two scenic miles and offers salmon and sea trout fishing for up to seven rods on a daily or weekly basis. Here you will also find a superbly located fishing hut with a full time ghillie. Access to the water is excellent, and vehicles may be taken to within metres of most pools. Boats are provided to help cover some of the water, and to ease access to the opposite bank. All beats have their own well-appointed fishing huts, providing facilities including WC, hot and cold water, cooker, fridge, heaters and barbecue. In addition to the fishing, our guests can enjoy and relax amid the spectacular scenery and wildlife for which Strathspey is famous. Limited Red Deer Stag stalking is available from August to October. All outings are in the company of our full time professional ghillies, gamekeepers and deer stalkers who are happy to share their experience and knowledge of the outdoors with each guest.
